Some hiatus, eh? Keeping a creative outlet such as this is becoming a need – life without it would almost be like life without music. Belive it or not, there are some people who have been reading this for a couple of years now. To those folks (you know who you are), you’re the greatest. And for the newcomers, I hope you’ll stay around for awhile, also.
Thanks to you all!

KING BOLETES HAVE BEEN FOUND!
Now, my little hiatus from the blogging circles doesn’t mean that the paths under the trees have been forsaken. Oh no, no, no. After the realization that my family is taken care of, hearing the voices in the trees and streams is priority number one.
A couple of walks have been made in attempts to find edible mushrooms. Chantrelles and boletes have been evading my skillet, mostly because I dislike hot weather. And, another major factor, I am not one hundred percent certain of positive identification of these species. But it is getting closer, and one day I’ll have them down! At least I am getting time and place for their appearances figured out. I did not have camera in hand when chantrelles were found the other day, but it was present on a short evening jaunt just this Thursday past. For the King Bolete!
They were aged and starting to mold a little, but now I have a hillside in memory of where to find them when the season hits! I also found what I believe to be Question Boletes that were in pretty good shape. They had a mildly bitter taste to them raw, so I don’t think I’ll be giving this species an attempt in the skillet. Uh-uh.
Here are some other fungi photos from that outing. I had to use the flash for some as the woods were getting dark.

THE KILLDARES
I attended the Iowa Irish Festival last weekend and finally got to see The Killdares live. Not a bad show at all. The kids and I enjoyed it enough that I thought I might share them here. Who don’t like bagpipes, fiddles and beer? C’mon! A few other bands played also, but we weren’t able to hang around for them. I’ll catch up with them next time, when I don’t have to drive!!! The Smithwick’s goes down real easy in hot weather and Celtic rock atmosphere, it’s a cinch.

TWEAKING
After over a year of prodding the city council, my wife has finally gained permission to keep laying hens. I can tell you with a smile on my face that you will witness a hen keepers diary on these pages (and I should get a few more rabbits, to boot). I WILL NOT be starting separate blogs for all my interests. It all needs to come out here, or nowhere. To hell with all the “blogging rules”.
Until next time, take care -
